In the summer of 2013 I was lucky to be part of a small group of MSU students to travel to Europe for a journalism class more commonly known as Photo Communications. I stayed in Prague, Arles, Paris, and London and for 7-9 days the assignments varied from photographing architecture to creating my own conceptual project. Photographers from each area also shared with us their work and stories regarding their own art. Throughout my five weeks abroad, my classmates and I posted about our adventures and projects on a blog for family, friends, and our teachers to enjoy and experience everything along with us. This experience allowed me to open my eyes to the world around me. The things I learned abroad I will never forget and the skills that I've gained will forever be a part of my photography.
I use this experience within my teaching to expand my students' experiences outside their own communities and connect their learning to other places in the world. My love of photography I share within my classroom in ways that make our classroom a relaxing environment. This allows my teaching to be stronger and allow myself to learn alongside my students in ways you can't from a textbook.
